Welcoming First Lady Jill Biden to NIH!
Posted on by Dr. Francis Collins

It was wonderful to have First Lady Jill Biden pay a virtual visit to NIH on February 3, 2021, on the eve of World Cancer Day. Dr. Biden joined me, National Cancer Institute (NCI) Director Ned Sharpless, and several NCI scientists to discuss recent advances in fighting cancer. On behalf of the entire NIH community, I thanked the First Lady for her decades of advocacy on behalf of cancer education, prevention, and research. To view the event, go to 53:20 in this video. Excellent video and presentation!
Welcome Mrs Jill Biden!!!
We are all thankful for your work and we hope a lot more will be done for research and education.
the stilbenoid polyphenol resveratrol may be suitable in ameliorating this situation of rapid development of dangerous rapid onset coagulation in COVID-19 due to its unique profile in having multiple known activities against COVID-19 associated pathologies. I’ve collected references that may be useful in making the case here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26693226/ Its activity against sepsis is what led me to think of it. We now know that it also inhibits replication of the SARS-CoV-2 virus as seems to be predicted by its activity against SARS and MERS. And RESv can be made from a famously persistent so-called invasive plant that grows throughout the world. Its been used medically for over 2000 years, and it is found in the meta-sequoia tree which is the city tree of Wuhan, China. Its survived in essentially the same form for more than 65 million years. An ancient myth about the tree’s bark’s use in medicine made me investigate what constituents might be in it,
Certainly we should know by now if it helps. It was suggested just a few years ago as a potential broad spectrum therapy for the next coronavirus epidemic, which as we know was predicted to occur within the next few years. A bit later its activity against MERS was shown to be real in an article in BMC infectious disease.
We shouldnt shy away from a potentially useful and inexpensive preventative agent (It may be useful for pre-exposure prophylaxis, as it was against pseudorabies Virus in piglets) simply because it was first suggested by a young woman. a 14 year old girl, Jennifer Zhang, of Little Rock High School, in a science fair competition, for which she won a national prize (this was before the emergence of the novel coronavirus in 2019) …
